Dear John,

Thank you. This seems like it should work. Perhaps we are having difficulties because our libraries do not match exactly.

Originally we were attempting to use teamwork. We gave up on that and are now just using solo projects. The highest level of success has been achieved through mailing zipped .pla files that have been archived with their parts.

I should be able to open files from the server using MY library. Server files always load the library from the server first, even after I work on my files that use my library. We must have different libraries. I'll let you know how this turns out. - Laurie
I think the stop loading library button works better than it did in earlier version and maybe now you dont have to shut down your connection. One user can use the main teamwork file and the other a client. this does work. I cant say I recommend using normal PLA files and merging the relevant information but have to confess doing that way when it was a one off and didnt want to set up a Teamwork file just for the one transfer.

Also I gave up using the satellite option a while back ( maybe it has improved since) and just use a copy of the main library. Since I control what is in that library it seems to work ok and manually sync them up when needed. If you are using two separtae libraies make sure they are the same.
Cheers John

I have also been using file synch software to keep my local libraries up to date with those on the server(s). (The satellite option was so horrifically slow in AC8.)

A handy bit is that both the local and server libraries show up in the Library Manager's history list, so it is very easy to switch between them.

We use green text on a Mark-up layer, however, it's not really working.

It takes forever to load files from the remote server because it reads the library from the server over the phone lines, which takes hours.

After I open the file and reload the library from my machine, I am able to open and close it normally. I can also copy it back to his server.

When he opens it, the library loads from his server. When I open it again it takes hours because it reads the library from the server, and NOT from my machine.

How can I get it to always open files on my machine reading the library locally? It reads it from the location of the last user instead. - Laurie
