Tracing a Section cut ?

Hi,

I have generated this section ( attached ) from a 3D model ( which I though was the correct procedure or creating sections ). I've taken it to my Tutor and she's moaning because it's not ' clean ' enough i.e there are a few lines that end up ' no where ' How can I trace this so that it follows the same shape but allows me to keep all edged joined... I could change the section but the problem would still be there.

You can draw additional line-work into sections if you wish. I usually do this in elevations, adding thicker lines where I want to add some relief or depth to the drawing.

You can also mask over unwanted lines with fills. Alternatively (if you believe you aren't going to have to repeat the exercise) you can unlink the section from the model so that it becomes nothing but 2D elements. You can then freely edit or delete elements as required.

I've just had a go with the fill method and as you can imagine, this will take a long time. Where can I change the cut in OBJECTiVE so that it's solid ( if possible ) and how can I remove the ' pinstripe' effects across the whole model ? I've changed various settings but then I end up with a completely blacked out section.

Attached is a screenshot of the fill I've added ( circled ), and the rest of the drawing shows the stripes that I wish to be like the fill.

Use the Floor Plan and Section settings to control the fills of objects cut in section.

The pin-stripe is the edges of the fills created from the faces of the 3D model - this is a weakness of ArchiCAD's shaded elevations. I recommend rendering the model and overlaying a 3D hidden-line view of the model (using the Internal Engine set to Hidden Line). You then get very smooth surface shading coupled with crisp edges.

Hi Ralph,

I've had a go at using the hidden line method and I've posted he results. As you can see, it has ' lost ' some of the details in 3D mode, especially the rivet, also in section view, the still don't quite join as I would like them.

Should I just try the sections with the fill method, or is there anything that the 3D window settings can do ? ( I've had a look but since I'm not experience I'm not sure which setting will work best with other. )

Is it possible to create angled sections in ArchiCAD ? The elements in which I'm cutting through are all at a 12 degree angle, so if I can place a section at a corresponding angles, then maybe the cut will show all of the ' shields ', rather and cutting through them at 90 degrees, which is why there seems to be missing lines.
