Wire Mesh Railing

Is there an object that I am overlooking or not thinking about that will achieve this wire mesh railing? Currently I am using morphs... However with this being a large project, I feel that several of these morphs may become a problem once I get deeper into it.

Morphs can be saved as library-parts. Then they are displayd in 2d and 3D much faster. You just have to think of how many different parts you need and then you put your library-parts instead of the nwo used morp geometry.

If you have to edit it - just convert it back to morph, edit the geometra and save it as library-part wit a new name.

The wire-mesh in your picture seems to be morph-lines? That wont be renderd-if this is your intention. Instead of using morphlines, it would be much easier to use png's with alpha channel for correct displaying in 3D-Renderings. But You would have to create the pictures for it before and attach it to a new created texture. In the austrian AC20 library there are some examples of this materials but i think in your language-version it should be to find too.

In 2D-section and views the created texture should get a hatch instead.

The thing about using hog wire in a railing is that it will probably end up being quite modular. You will determine the max. posts spacing and adjust that to work with the hog wire panels you place between the posts.

I have used lots of things to model hog wire and/or wire railings. Even custom windows.




as with everything you model in ArchiCAD is depends on what you need it to do. Schedules, Rendering, Plan view....

I have used walls several times.

If you want to see it 'as built' in your model then you must model it with morphs, complex profile wall if just horizontal wires, trussmaker, or objects just to name a few methods.
If it is just for a rendering then you can use a solid wall with a material added that has a texture or the wire attached - the texture has an alpha channel for the holes which makes them transparent.

I believe there are surfaces already for Cinerender that have the alpha channels that come default with Archicad and more if you have access to the additional surface catalogue (if you have a select agreement).

No performance issues yet. I have several placed and still running smooth. The modern style is looks great, but this is a mountain top amusement/shopping area here in Gatlinburg. They have themed it to fit the area.
