Zone Hierarchy

Anonymous
Not applicable
When designing a project we usually have the hierarchy

site-building-floor-appartment-room.

As AC is i cannot have a zone, say it appartment, that consists of its rooms.
Then i would be able to ask for tiling surface on a room and then on the appartment and then on the floor and so on.

Is there an add-on that can provide a zone hierarchy.
I dont know if you find it usefull, but its a great way to organize the project.

noone has ever heard of such a solution?
Or its just me thinking that nested zones are very helpfull?

I guess i have to put it to the wish list...

I think the "closest" you can get to this is by using the Zone Number wisely.
Zone number can contain up to three "." characters which can divide the Zone Number into up to 4 pieces.

E.g.: Building A.Story 2.Aptmn 32.05

These 4 texts can be listed separately so this gives you something similar to a hierarchy.
You may also use the User ID to give a 5th level to the hierarchy.
I wonder if that helps you out...

Sounds like what I have come up with. I am still pretty new to using the zone tool (and I work primarly on single family homes). But I have set up essentially two zone heirarchies using the zone number and names. the first set is for the overall sq.footages i.e. zone numbers E-1,N-1,D-1 would correspond to existing living, new living, and demolished living areas, E-2,N-2,D-2 would be for garage, ?-3 for mechanical space, etc..., etc.....
The second set applies to individual rooms; zone number 1 would be for any living space room - then further identified by the zone name like bedroom, or kitchen....

I hope to learn how to make use the IS to finish my sq. footage calcs for me in a spreadsheet form. (also to learn how to make IS finish schedules.)
