Hi i just have saw the videos about new archicad 12 version , but i would like to know if there is something new improvements about modeling tools and rendering capabilities , along the new features included ,or the rendering and modeling tools capabilites remains the same ,? plk

thanks

Hi Ralph, Perhaps you could put your many examples you post here of Objective on your web site in one place to show existing users and prospective clients the many uses of the tool. I would be very interested in a list of ways you use it and examples. Like many tools in Archicad you can use them in many ways people never think of until suggested. Also I would be interested if you could explain in more detail how Objective was used in your project above. Any goodies for Objective for AC 12? As AC 12 still hasn't got fills in beams and complex profiles, Objective solves this glairing omission in AC 12.

Ralph, I have just discovered (and bought) 'Objective' and would love to see lots more examples of how you have used it. I find that looking at examples is one of the best ways for me to expand the way I think about and use software like yours.

I also find the workflow to be quite well integrated and intuitive even though I do not have a lot of experience with it yet.

I've been watching this discussion, but decided against commenting. Now I'm intrigued, and I can't resist asking... what would you change about OBJECTiVE to make it fit into ArchiCAD better? We've worked hard to make our software work as seamlessly as possible. This will sound too much like an advert if I spout off about it here, but the actions we've taken are all listed here for anyone who's interested: http://www.encina.co.uk/add-onconcerns.html

We've also never charged users for updates when new versions of AC arrive - when AC12 is released, existing OBJECTiVE users can simply insert the latest version and carry on as normal.

....well Ralph, I have to say fair play to you, since Objective is one of the more accessible and higher quality set of add-ons for ArchiCAD, out there; just based on the simplicity of usage and its general intuitiveness. During the brief experience I had with it, and consequently the drawback I encountered, all had to do with the fact that once any ArchiCAD construction element - say a beam, or a railing for example, was rotated (or otherwise a manipulated) using Objective's 3D-rotate tool, that element stops reading as an ArchiCAD construction element and consequently cannot be further parametrically edited through it's ArchiCAD settings dialog box; since you would have to save it as a new independent object and use it as such from that point on. Clearly this presents problems further downstream in the design process when there are lots of changes and revisions to be made, particularly involving Objective-manipulated objects, and you have to revert to the original ArchiCAD objects that created them to achieve this.

I realize that this isn't a limitation that you can do much about since it is a constraint inherent in how the gdl code and programming as well as how archicad construction elements work and interact in the program. It's just unfortunate that's all.

To be quite honest Ralph, given how frequent on these forums and how responsive in general you are to your customers (compared to GS folks), one can't help but wish that you actually worked for Graphisoft and were, at least the badly desired level of interaction between developer and customer that Graphisoft is badly lacking at this point.

Any way, the post wasn't a direct criticism of your products as such but rather of Graphisoft's deliberate reticence and apparent complacency in their development process - particularly in seemingly choosing not to develop the sort of powerful tools that can work in an integrated manner within the program, such as the ones that you're clearly able to develop from without their system and without their resources.

That shouldn't be the case; a standard ArchiCAD object can simply be selected and cut/rotated wihout resaving, and the object should continue to work exactly as it did before, e.g. editing in the ArchiCAD settings box. The process should be completely seamless, as if you were doing an ordinary 2D Split or Rotate. Contact me if you find this is not the case and I'll sort it out.
