columns creating gaps in drywall

I'm having difficulty with placing columns against walls, and having the outside texture of my wall, the drywall, visually disappear in places near the column being placed (as indicated by the arrow in the image attached). It's there, but hides when I place the column where it is. I've had this problem in other places as well, any thoughts?

figured it out.. just changed layer properties.
