I am a little confused by your description. I suspect you are unfamiliar with some of the standard ArchiCAD jargon. I don't know of any way that the "Guidelines" can be made to work relative to the "Project Origin".

I am guessing that what you may need is to click on one or both of the little triangles next to the x, y, r & a fields in the coordinates palette. These switch the working coordinates between the "User Origin" and the "Local Origin".

The former is what you set when you shift + option/alt click a point to relocate the dark X. The latter is the origin of the current process (such as drawing a line). When you are not drawing or editing stuff the two origins are the same.

The "Project Origin" is the absolute origin relative to which all elements are drawn. This is a fixed reference point that cannot be moved. (To change its position relative to the building requires selecting the whole building and moving it relative to the project origin.)

BTW: You can reset the "User Origin" to the project origin by double clicking the "User Origin" button at the left end of the coordinates palette. Otherwise it will still be displayed as a pale X at the origin of the construction grid.

Hi Gary

While Matthews explanation is a bit off, the solution is correct. You do have three origins: Project Origin, User Origin and Edit Origin. When you change your coordinates to be absolute instead of relative (by clicking on the delta signs in the coordinate box), ArchiCAD is now referencing everything relative to your User Origin (which may be in the same position as your Project Origin if you haven't relocated it).

This is obviously quite logical, and is also why your guidelines also reference your Project Origin. If you hold shift down, you'll notice that the Edit Origin does in fact jump back to the beginning point of your line as expected. This is because the angle is now constrained relative to the start of your line, so the Edit Origin has little choice but to relocate itself there.

The best solution for you is to reurn your Coordinates to Relative again. Hope that's clearer.

Cheers,
