merging walls

I think i need an explanation. or something.

What is the point of merging walls- why not create a complex profile?

I want to merge becuase i only have a couple walls that I need merged so my window will be shown in both walls.

I am having problems withw alls cleaning up when I merge them.
They seem to lose their skin priorities?

How am i SUPPOSED to use this merge wall command?

I am still having trouble with this.
instead of using the merged walls I am cpaturing the profile and making them a complex profile.

but i still cannot get some of them to clean up.
some do though
i thought maybe there was a column or something above or below getting in the way, but no.

I am wondering if it has something to do with the color of the selection nodes, though i dont know what they mean.

I can clean up two walls that both have hollow green nodes, but not one with a solid orange to a green, or two solid orange ones- unless I copy and rotate a wall so I have two of the same exact walls with solid orange nodes, then I can clean them up.

??????????/

I am going to do a search for node selection and what it means I guess, maybe that will help.

oh, and nothing is grouped.

OH! DUH!
so the hollow nodes are grouped- I just diddnt zoom out far enough to see what it was grouped with.

My orange dots still are not cleaning up though.

OK well- for anyone that is reading me reply to myself over and over again
I have a solution to my problem.

this file has been passed through a million drafters, out sourced and in house and things get jumbled.

my issue had to do with home stories and show on storeis.

They were different between the walls and as far as I can tell they have to be on the same story and shown on the sam estories to clean up.

Any one know that this is not true?

As for merged walls- it would still be cool if someone could tell me what their main purpose is.

Thanks!

Interesting. I also like Samuel Beckett.

I think you answered this one yourself in your original post. That might be the reason why nobody else answers.

To question my answer that I may or not have knowingly or not given.

My theory:
Merge wall command-

Archiuser A would want to use this command to group one or more walls together so they act as one. This is useful for instance when you want to show a window through more than one wall.
But then the walls dont hold their skin priorities, so they wont clean up with other walls

Archiuser B would want to use the merge wall command to take two walls and make a complex profile of it through the capture profile command. but why wouldnt I just select both walls and use the capture profile command?

Archiuser C would still like to know how other people use this command....

I use the merge wall command quite frequently because we do mostly renovations, remodels and rehabs. We conduct surveys of the existing structures and develop as-built models. From there we use that model to develop the new design which most times includes adding skins of additional walls directly over an existing one that contains openings that are remaining. I suppose we could create new composite walls and go through the trouble of changing all of the walls in the building and making sure they align properly but, using the merge wall command makes it much easier to cut the opening holes in the new skins and not affecting the placement of the as-built.

Well, I'm mostly your user A. I take care of the priorities afterwards if necessary. I tend to use composites very sparingly, so it's no big problem here.
