persistent guide lines V17

Is it possible to have guide lines remain until I decide they are no longer needed!

It is very frustrating to set up an arrangement of guide lines that often involve a number of separate operations only to have them vanish after just one.

Hope I'm just missing something obvious here!

Nope.
Your next best option is to use actual lines and delete them after use or put them in a layer that can just be turned off.
