story assignment

New to the program, and am doing the tutorial. Carefully built a site on the wrong floor, buried the building. Changed the Z placement so it looks right, but it' still on the wrong floor...can I reassign the floor of an object? It seems that as STORIES are the fundamental heirarchy of the program, I should be able to, but can't figure it out. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks!

Currently the only way to change the story of an element (mesh? in this case) is to "cut" it from the story it's on and "paste" into the story you want it on. (If you can see the entire element or elements you are cutting then it will put it in the exact same plan location, otherwise it will ask where you would like to put the pasted element(s), one you see it in plan there is a marquee around it click outside the marquee to accept the location.)

The one problem with this method is you have to adjust the height of the object (z value) since it seems to be tied to the story level, not absolute zero. Another issue is you will lose any Solid Element Operations (SEO) performed on the object since it is really a new object when you paste.

For example I place a beam on the first floor at 10' but then want to move it to the roof (10' above the first floor) the beam will now be at 20' above zero (maintaining it's 10' relationship to its home story).

Hope that helps.

If you are using a mesh to draw you site contours you might also want to do the following. No matter which storey the mesh is on set its height to project zero to 0. This way when you elevate any points along the mesh it will always be measured from project 0 (sea level). You can also copy and paste the mesh to other stories and as long as you move it back to project zero on that particular story it will alway be at the correct elevation.
