strange behaviour in 3d hotlinks

Can anyone shed any light as to what's happening here:

Have modelled villas in a separate file and hotlinked them into a file where site has been modelled. The strange thing is that of 8 instances of hotlink, four of them show roof object changing form. Attached image show 3d view of 2 copies of THE SAME hotlink, rotated approx. 90degrees. Why the roof would be doing this?

Affected roofs marked; again, these are part of a hotlinked .pln, which has been used for the other, non-affected villas as well.

Did you try dividing the roof to unique panes ?
Maybe it helps ?

thanks Alex, that seemed to fix the issue.
Strange that it was only affecting only some of the hotlinks though...
