what's the use of the polyline tool?!

I still can't understand what the use of the polyline tool is - it's just lines and acrs together, but we already have groups in Archicad! Are there any new features thet I don't get? Pease, tell me, I've looked in the Help and Giude but didn't learn anything.

the only thing we use polylines for is calculating egress distances. The element information pallette reads the TOTAL length of all the segments of your polyline, making it very easy to get a distance for a path of travel that has to go around things.

there were a few bugs with PM reading arcs in polylines properly - don't know if those are worked out yet... anybody?

Polyline is different from multiple connected lines most importantly when drawing rectangles and other closed forms, because polylines behave likes elements when edited.

Make a rectangle with lines. Make a rectagle with polylines. Stretch or edit an edge -- see the difference.

You can edit the polyline as if it was a fill...

Attached is a polyline and four lines drawn as a rectangle.

I have also found them usefull for the simple fact that you can simply select a chain of segments in one click rather than shift-clicking multiple elements and risking selecting the wrong one.

I find groups annoying- Have you ever noticed they are off when you want them and on when you dont.

Also I read that a lot of groups ( particulary nested) will slow archicad down

But not this group. This group speeds ArchiCAD up!

It is going to be a long night.

IMHO, GS should merge the fill and polyline tools with the following options that behave like POLY2_B:
1). able to hide edges.
2). able to show fill.
3). automatic area and perimeter calculation.

It's a WISH!

Thanks, guys!
When I first saw Polyline tool I fancied that at last we had lines in 3D.
Alas! Perhaps I expected too much (
I keep wishing though...
