Version specification when creating posts

Noticed the option to set version for AC and operating system when creating a post in the installation and update forum - a nice improvement. But it should really be available for all forums where posts where the information is relevant are likely to be posted (which is all since GS don't want to handle bugs/tech issues separately). And shouldn't build numer be included?

Hi @thesleepofreason,

Thank you for your feedback. We are planning to gradually release this option to other boards as well. At the moment we are checking the usage pattern and review how to configure it properly. It's also a question at the moment how to place the output, so it doesn't make the reading experience worse, as at the moment the thread starter area is a bit crowded.

Regarding the build numbers - myself I have a bit of a concern here, because from my experience, many people are not familiar with their build number. Another worry of mine that if we include all build numbers, the list will be too long. In case we add the option for build numbers, do you see it as an element in a drop down (what I said earlier), or is it an empty field one needs to fill in?

We are open to your feedback how to improve this functionality of the forum.

Kind regards,
Noémi

I think the display is too dominant, it should be more like my signature.

Apple iMac Intel i9 / macOS Sonoma / AC27UKI (most recent builds.. if they work)

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your feedback in this new feature which we rolled out in just one board to get started. As Noemi shared we need to further optimize layout to make it not blow up the thread layout further. That's when we will rolling it to more boards, possibly even all since it's voluntary information users can, but don't have to share.

Encouraging to hear that you are planning to add it to other boards as well - just don't get stuck reviewing. One thing I think the implementation of this function highlights is that there is reason to look over the forum structure with regards to separation of technical posts. I personally think that it is very strange not to have board for technical issues regardless of domain but instead have them posted together with more general posts about different workflows. This seem to have been realised for the AI visualiser where there is a separate thread for technical issues (which for some reason also got a lot of official engagement relative to other technical issues). Why would the rest of AC be any different - especially as it has the same feeling of "being part of an experiment"?

The current placement between two rules above the user signature is not good - would be better to have it associated to the topic. It should really be handled as metadata and not just some text output attached - making it possible to show in the preview and perhaps for filter and searches.

The build number is often relevant for resolving technical issues and it should be possible to enter it, could be a dropdown that filters on AC version and OS and he length of the list should not be an issue.

Two other issues. If it should be possible to post without the information - then it should be possible to revert back to no input (--Please Choose--) or clearly exclude the information which it currently isn't. It should also be possible to change the information when editing posts which it currently isn't.
