Duplicate Layer Combination

To be able to duplicate a layer combination would be helpful > then minor adjustments and rename it for a slightly different view. I can't find that it is possible to do that straight-forwardly; unless there is a trick for accomplishing it?

If not, let me know and i'll throw a coin in the wishing well.

Basic training...

When you click the "New" button in the Layer Settings dialog, you create a new combination that has the current settings for every layer.

So, if you want a duplicate of Combo "X", simply select X, then click New. Done.

Minor adjustments? Select the new combo, make your changes, then click the Update buton.

Hi, apologies for resurrecting an old thread. I was actually searching for a way to duplicate an individual layer and it's settings (not a layer combination) and stubbled across this topic.

I want to duplicate the 'SLAB - GENERAL' layer for the purpose of creating and renaming an identical layer, maintaining the same layer settings. I can duplicate a layer combination, but not an individual layer without manually changing settings to match the desired duplicate. Is there a way? Thanks.

Layers don't really have their own settings stored with the layer - they are stored in the combinations.
But what I think you want is to duplicate a layer and have it duplicate the settings of the original layer in all the layer combinations as well.

This could be handy but all you have to do is select the layer and change the properties for each layer combination on the left.
There is no need to even UPDATE which is what you must do if you select the layer combination and change the layer settings on the right.
Two slightly different methods of adjusting the settings that I have found some people are not aware of.

No worries. Thanks Barry, I thought I may have been missing a quicker way of doing it. Changing the properties for each layer combination on the left does not take too long If I'm just adding one layer with duplicate settings, however changing multiple duplicate layers can be a little time consuming.

You can duplicate layers using the Attribute Manager and the newly created layers will have their wireframe/solid and intersection priority and extension etc duplicated, but they will not be part of layer combinations. You will have to manually fix that.

You can however, import/export/duplicate etc layer combinations as well in the attribute manager, which I find quite handy.
