Iceberg Method – Plan Rotation and Module Displacement

Hello all,

I am currently working with the Iceberg method using nested modules, and I needed to modify the plan rotation because the project north has changed.

As the project contains many levels, I attempted to move them all together using the Marquee selection across all stories. The project is set up with the north oriented vertically, and the plan aligned straight and vertically as well.

However, after making this adjustment, all modules shifted and are now out of position.

Since I am working with the Iceberg method, I would like to properly realign everything and reposition the modules one under another. ( not to keep the modules levels unchnaged )

In your opinion, how could I resolve this issue? Is there a solution other than rebuilding everything from scratch?

Thank you very much for your help, availability, and support.

Kind regards,

Operating system used: Windows

Maybe the problem is that using Marquee across all stories means that the operation rotated the source geometries of the Hotnliked module in the lower stories, plus it rotated their placed instances as well, they they were rotated twice.

I would recommend locking every element on the lower stories, so the source geomettries of the Hotlinked modules do not get rotated. Then unlock them after the rotation is done. See if that gives you the desired result.

If i am correct then:

you are using direct alignment method

which only requires turning off or locking the Hotlink master layer and then using the global marquee tool with all layers/full structural display turned on(assuming you don't have design options)

after you update the hotlinks then everything will reset correctly.

if you are using multiple alignments/offsets,

Still lock/hide the master layers and then after you update the hotlinks you will only need to fix the offset point placements.

This is why it is a good idea to maintain Mud Maps like this (even for Iceberg arrangements) to ensure it was easy to identify offsets.

I hope this helps.

P.S. if you are using direct alignment and you have already rotated everything without locking the hotlink master layers then this will fix it:

Place a hotspot at 0,0 on all the stories

Make sure it is the TRUE 0,0 origin not the temporary offset "user origin"(true project origin is shown in grey if the origin is at the temporary "user origin" shown in black)

AllanP_0-1770586939662.png

the fist button in the coordinate pallet can change the user origin

AllanP_0-1770588684539.png

a quick check is to move the user origin and see if there is a grey cross left behind. then you can move it back.

Update the hotlinks,

align those hotspots of the placed module to the 0,0 point on the story the hotlink is placed to,

then change the hotlink module rotation back to 0.

Update the hotlinks again

repeat for every placed hotlink.

at the end of the "Step-wise" process everything will align again.

delete the hotspots(or move them to a hidden layer)
