Label Text Changes Itself

One of our teams just printed out a floor plan and noticed that 80% of the labels with text now have the same text, "LOADING DOCK..." I believe what happened in this situation is what happened in another file two months ago. We selected an assortment of labels with text, then changed the layer -- just the layer, nothing else. Every single label magically changed it's text to all be the same. Somehow, every label takes on the text of one of the selected labels. How it determines which text to use is a mystery, but not nearly as annoying as the fact that this happens at all.

I have seen this bug twice now, but when I intentionally try to reproduce it in different models it doesn't happen. It's almost as if there is some secret combination of commands and/or environment that is causing this problem, but I can't figure out what it is.

I had this happen a couple of months ago. I would select several placed labels (made with label tool) to change a parameter like straight line leader to curved or a pen and all the text would change to whatever the last text was set for.

I coulcn't duplicate it with any consistancy but have watched out for it since.

That's the most frustrating part -- no consistency. Yesterday, one of my drafters said it was happening so I went right over to his machine and he couldn't duplicate it.

One more reason why I avoid the label tool.

This POS implementation of an important tool is my biggest gripe with ArchiCAD. I often dream of what I would do with a proper label tool. In the mean time I make do with library parts and the occasional text and arrows. Let's hope we don't have to wait for AC11 to see it fixed.

What library parts exactly? We use the label tool all over the place, but if there is something better, I would like to know about it.

The library parts are various custom bits I've made for myself and my clients. Erika has prompted me to look into fixing something up for more general release, which I may be able to do this Summer. Maybe I can at least get something out to show what the label tool SHOULD be able to do. I'll keep y'all posted.
