New on Archicad 10

I have been with Archicad since 6 and am now starting out with Archicad 10. I have difficulties with site plans and layers. I am designing homes for specific sloped sites. I am attempting to develop several options of wall and floor structural systems and construction materials for the same building for estimating. I believe the best way to do this is to create alternate layer schemes. I have been having a difficult time understanding how the layer system works. I am now attempting to do this project on A10 Standard without introducing my own layers and creating all kinds of confusion. I notice that there is no Site Plan in NAVIGATOR and that the Site plan is meant to be seen in the background of the floor plans as noted in Simmons Step by Step book. In the past I have had problems with the site model freezing once you install the building if you try to change the site topography. I will try to keep in touch in this Talk format.

I am not trying to discourage you in anyway from finding out what you need to know, however, if ask a specific question and you will have a better chance of getting a specific answer.

If it is the ability to show and generate a plan based on several different sets of options, floor plans, materials and technologies for the same building, ArchiCAD has some plugins called Change Manager $895.00 or Options Manager $599.00 you may be interested in.

I would be surprised it they do anything you could not do in ArchiCAD with out them but you might like to check it out.

you will like working with layers once you get the hang of it.

start with this. click Window-Pallets-Quick Layers.
That will help.
Also, Ctrl-L
Learn to make veiw sets and layer combinations.
Use the Navigator to save views.
Don't forget to save the correct layer combination with your view.

Layers sort easily if using the Extension to sort and list.
