what are the ways i can reduce my project file size?

1)delete unused layers
2)delete unused favorites
3)delete unused materials
4)replace 3d trees with bitmaps

will the above methods help? if yes,
then what is the best method to identify & delete unused favorites, layers & materials?

thanks

what is actually doing this option unchecked or checked ?

It probably doesn't make any difference with internally linked drawings (i.e. the drawing is from a view within the project).

But if you link to a drawing from an external source (i.e. from another project), then that file location must be available to you to be able to see that information.
If you check the box, a copy of the drawing will be saved in your local project, so even if the original source is no longer available, you will still see it.

At least I think that is what it does.

The poster is quoting a 10 year old post. Please, folks, unless you are using an X-year old version of ARCHICAD, don't quote or post to threads that are X-years old. 🙂 Start a new thread.

10 years ago, there was no multithreaded drawing generation (and so much more), so even local drawings were cached in the project file. This checkmark prevented that caching and forced drawing regeneration. Perhaps it does what Barry suggests now with external drawings. Don't know.

Sorry to bump an old thread to ask a question but:

My problem is that the file has been showing error messages that it cannot be handled because of memory, but what I suspect as the cause is that I have transferred a lot of .dwg lines directly from AutoCAD and may have slowed the file. Is there some way to reduce the file size and make it faster (like purging of the 2D elements?)

My specs are written in my signature and I don't think it is too slow to handle several 2D lines.

Thanks in advance!
I know this is an old post, therefore functionality may well have improved since this was posted, however to resolve the issue above I would use the consolidate lines and consolidate fills tools under the edit/reshape menu.
