Redundancy in updating S/E

Anonymous
Not applicable
When I have two views set for the same elevation (the only differences are scale & layer combination) why does it have to spend time updating both views? They are both exactly the same elevation, if one is updated shouldn’t the other one be exactly the same. Also there seems to be some disconnect between updating the same section/elevation in model view and updating it in layout view.
There seems to be some redundancy in updating, or am I missing some kind of benefit for this?

Hmmmm - seems they are not both exactly the same then!

As far as AC is concerned , different layer combinations mean different parts of the model can be showing, so it needs to rebuild each view to reflect those differences.

Yes, updating the view or the viewpoint is separate from updating the drawing made from that view or viewpoint. A confusing sitaution may occur when you have a manual-rebuild model S/E and an automatically updating drawing coming from that S/E viewpoint.

I had a client recently ask me this:

If we have a Manual Rebuild Model S/E and we make a view of it, then change the current layer combination to show different model elements, then we open up a layout that contains an auto-update drawing of that S/E, will it update to reflect the correct layer combination assigned to the view?

The answer is yes (because the change in layers automatically rebuilds the manual-rebuild S/E!), but it does point out that it can become a little confusing, as can many of the new features in AC10.
