im finding it hard to select certain things for example when two things are directly on top of each other. Is there an easy way of selecting something which is directly underneath something else without having to turn off the layer?

it used to be that putting caps lock on and shift clicking the node would scroll through the different elements on top of one another.

since archiCAD 8, this no longer works. you have to have the selection tool (arrow) active and continually click through until you find the element that you need. . .

Also, if you have a certain tool active and holding the "Shift" key down will only select entities that are of that active tool and ignore all others.

Yes there is.

Activate the tool that creates that element (e.g. a slab) and Shift click on the edge; even if it coincides with a wall, the salb will be selected.

If you do have the time, arrow click through the cycle ...

I remember this same conversation at the old ArchiCAD-Talk. It was determined then, that using the arrow to cycle through elements for selection is hardware specific. With my experiences since then, I have noticed that some Kensington and standard mac mice won't let you cycle, while other mice, including my favorite MS Explorer Intellimouse lets you cycle through with ease.

I was one of the main complainers about this selection problem on my Mac in the old thread but have found that it's working just fine now in AC8.1 with Kensington mice (Jaguar or Panther).
