Does anyone else share .pln's this way? Or is AC simply not set up to trade back and forth like that?

Have done this multiple times without problems. The only item you have to keep track is waiting for DB to synchronise. If the other person hits save and closes AC they have to wait until DB uploads the information if they don't by either letting the computer go to sleep or shutting it down then you will not get the information. Same on your side you need to wait until DB downloads all the info which is usually faster than the upload. One way to check if that is the problem is that DB will usually indicate that there are "conflicted copies" of the file.

Ah, working now. With this working, are there advantages to using Travel Pack?

Using Travel packs is for Teamwork it avoids the first (huge) download when you connect via Internet to the TW Server. Basically the other person would create a Travel Pack while being in the same network locally. Then he/she would leave the office and connect remotely to the Teamwork Server at the office and work as normal. The benefit here is that both will be able to work on the file at the same time since TWS would handle the synchronization.
