Working in "Detached Mode"

again folks, we keep having these "Do you want to work in Detached Mode" issues with one of our TW projects.

Can someone explain to me what's the point for this message?
Can someone explain to me how to avoid this message?
Can someone explain to me if I do continue to get this message....how or what do I have to do to get "reattached" to the server copy of the TW database???

thank you,

Here's my understanding....

I've had several CRASHES in my file.

Upon re-opening AC, the link to the TW HOST FILE has been damaged and can't be "fixed"..

The first option is to TRASH you local copy (with all elements you've added / edited since your last SEND) and simply re-log into the host file. Of course you will then have to RE-DO all the things that aren't there.

The other option is to work in DETACHED MODE...so now you can keep on working, but you can never update the TW HOST FILE (directly)...

I choose the 2nd option and IMMEDIATELY save a .PLN file. I usually rename it FILENAME + SAVED12202010....

Then I log back into the TW HOST FILE...Here I choose to DISCARD Changes and get back into the file as my old self. With the .PLN file open at the same time... I can copy paste new stuff into the TW File.

It just so happened that I was working on SCHEDULE FORMATTING... so I can't really copy and paste those over (although I can create a new SCHEDULE EXPORT and feed it in that way)..

And, if I edited objects, I have to flip a coin as to whether I re-edit in the revived TW File or try and pick out the edits and copy paste. Obviously with items such as walls that are associated with dimensions, the choice becomes critical...

So not 30min after the previous post.. I crashed again... (who do we bill this time to?)...

Here's the RUB...

The AUTOSAVE come up with a file that is over an hour old.... Clearly, I must have had a better autosave than that...

But typically I would go to the FOLDER and see if my .PLN file is more recent than that... Only with this new teamwork set up... I can't! There is no other file (in .pln form) that I can check...

And why does WINDOWS let you bypass this decision and open up another file (without deleting the autosave file) and MAC does not?

Why not just open the autosave document to check? If it's where you want it continue on with it, if not just close it and open the project again? Presumably this can be done simultaneously in separate ArchiCADs so it's just like checking solo projects.

If it were me, I'd reload the project from the server and if that didn't help, I'd try leaving and rejoining, checking in between that there was no duplicate TW Data folders for that project.

Cheers,
Link.
