Use a 3ds file instead of an OBJ file.
Cinema4D doesn't read material information from OBJ files. It reads the geometry fine and in fact, the mapping coordinates are preserved, but the materials all get a default grey color, with no other material settings read from the model.
Using 3ds files, you get more information through: color and texture, camera's, lightsources, although the 3ds-format only supports texture names in the DOS naming convention, meaning 8 characters for the file name and 3 for the extension.
