Ben,

thanks for your reply in the thread http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=1281#1281

I have one more question: If Archilumos starts an external application, does that mean that you can quit Archicad or start working on something else in it while ARchilumos is rendering? Or do you have to wait for it to finish first?
Thomas.
Yes you can close down ArchiCAD and start working on some thing else. But as with all radiosity solutions they are rather complicated and take up a lot of your memory(RAM),
So depending on how much RAM you have depends on weather or not you can go and work on some thing else.

First of all all I wish to congratulate for user friendly interface that I found in ArchiLumos and it is really simple as it is Shade 5. I think anybody using ArchiCAD may create good images with radiosity and really not knowing anything about it. (or at least very little) . It is unbelievably fast, but I won't complain

I have tried NFR and I think artificial lights and raytracing are stronger sides, but I failed to produce quallity daylight-interior images and somehow it won't accept path to IES files in luminaire settings.

If someone has hands on experience, please advise.

Sorry for the delay. This is rough image, first hand.

Since NFR has 5 lights limit I'm posting one more image where you can see light distribution across the room.

It seems to have it's limits, but if this is something you can do directly in ArchiCAD, then it is a must-have 😉

I don't know if it performs well with High-polygon environments, anti-aliasing, depth-of-field.

Does it use a radiosity-engine (one that splits all geometry up in smaller pieces)?

Does it supports alpha-mapped images?

Is there a better material engine?

A lot of questions, but these are the things that are supported in the (expensive) 3D-animation tools, like 3ds max, Maya, Lightwave, Cinema4D, XSI etc...

I sure think it will have it's uses. The only strange thing is that it seems to be that Graphisoft is ashamed of this product. It is only available in Japan & Sweden. Is this not suited for the rest of the ArchiCAD users?

Is there a demo-version we can try?

Agreed!

I plan to try it on a 100MB model with full interior, sun only - as I have something like 750 lights ... which, to digress a little, AV Works (the public Beta) swallows up perfectly.

Every radiosity I know does that?

Alpha channel? AFAIK yes.

ArchiCAD only, BUT - you can tweak the properties related to radiosity and raytracing.

This is the real question ...

May I suggest a friendly call to your local GS people, that you recently bought a lunch for, and so on ... ? 😉
