The concept you have described/practice is brilliant, and is also very possible... you can even switch back and forth from realistic materials to cardboard/foam/plastic materials with the proper templates at any given time.... incredible! I've never thought about that. This opens a whole new world with controllability when trying to produce different types of render styles/techniques from a single archicad project! Until Archicad invents some way to save material combinations...this is very doable through templates.

Then in your template set up your tool defaults and/or favorites to use these materials where appropriate, so that everything you create uses these default materials.
But Link: Please detail your bulk material switch procedure a little- it seems like a brilliant tip , but I don't follow you completely, and I'm scared of material confusion - I've had too many "missing library part" dialogs in my life!
Once you have finalized the material, switch it out by changing the material definition, or by using this method.
Cheers,
Link.

But...would it be a huge programming issue to have one tiny API that overrules all materials? A "one-for-all-material button?". I think I need to check this out with MAD in Finland.
Last time at GS I proposed a material alternative table...similar in concept to pen set. But GS focus is probably elsewhere at the moment.

Good idea, Mats!

I also like butts but "keep-it-simple-stupid" gets the job done pretty often...then we can add butts...
Do you know that you can go to our website and enter gdl-wishes!? (swedish/nordic only). We're investing in gdl-knowledge and the API programming knowledge is in the region so this is a very exiting area.
