FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF LIGHTWORKS NOW!!!!

I think that Graphisoft should completely implement the LightWorks Rendering features in Archicad.

Do you agree?

Its hard to disagree with the idea of a fully-integrated full-featured top-of-the-line photorealistic rendering component in ArchiCAD, but I think I will anyway.

Truth is, if the OpenGL rendering engine in the 3d window could cast shadows and maybe handle three light sources, I could easily accomplish about 90% of my rendering needs right there in the 3d window, where I already have real time walkthrough and fairly sophisticated editing capabilities.

That's where I'd like to see Graphisoft invest their time and resources.

Oh, yeah? I wish we had shadows in OpenGL, too, but I'd also lke to get my hands on these LightWorks features: - attached.

Dwight, what year was it when we walked the Siggraph floor in San Diego? I remember showing you the screen with the real time demonstration of the cell phone. Then you initiated the conversation with the LW rep. - informed him about GS ArchiCad, etc. ( I think that was the catalyst for LW integration)

From their web site:

As part of the Company's strategic development plan, LightWork Design is working closely with the leading graphics hardware suppliers, e.g. 3Dlabs, ATI and NVIDIA, on the integration of products and shader technology with their hardware, so as to maximize the benefits for customers and their users. At SIGGRAPH, LightWork Design has demonstrated the benefits of LightWorks Real-time:

We should have had all of this long long ago.

This might seem overly critical, but sometimes I feel companies include features in their software so that resellers can point at them.

Not that they work well, or completely, or like certain web sites might imply.

I refer not only to the Lightworks implementation, but the Align Tool, also.

The LW-website is just to show how bad LW in AC is.

What is the current Graphisoft story line on full implementation?

One good reason not covered in the previous comments is- why implement the full lightworks in ArchiCAD?

Well - if you go to the trouble of setting views up properly in ArchiCAD using the LW renderer, you can automate the whole process - update your model and you can automatically update the renders on your layout pages.
This alone is a compelling reason.

But I agree whole-heartedly with Dwight - why implement something so half baked? The useless (read: buggy and slow) materials palette compounds the problem, and an upgrade of this item also needs to be included in this wish.

Given the paucity of the interface and materials palette we have gone back to using Artlantis for rendering - and upgraded it to Studio.

Life wasn't meant to be so hard!

Recently I made a small rotating animation, with a number of frames that would normally provide a steady smooth path, but it was so jerky. Is there an issue with the cameras too?

In my opinion problem with LW in AC is that the implementation is rather rough
than it has too little options (comparing to the features from LW web site).
Small previews, mysterious text parameters for shaders in Material editor, unhandy material choosing, rendering speed and its suspending, lack of real documentation is a good start for new features in following Archicad.
It would be fine to see radiosity (is it real radiosity or only a global illumination?) in Archicad but I'd like rather lights adjusting easier and more predictable.
