Google Earth connectivity add-on for ArchiCAD10

Not applicable
Dear All,

I am glad to inform you that the native ArchiCAD 10 compatible Google Earth add-on is available for download. Although, it is still in beta phase, we would like to share it with you, and ask for your contribution in the testing and evaluation process. Please, feel free to share your thoughts either in this thread or in a personal message. All comments are welcome, I am eager to get your feedback how we can make this tiny add-on as useful as possible.

Usage: The Google Earth – ArchiCAD data exchange is quite similar to Sketchup:

- Download the following file and unpack it:
GE Connectivity Add-on for Archicad 10

- Backup and then replace the “GSXML.dll” file in your ArchiCAD 10 folder and copy the “Google Earth In-Out.apx” under the [Add-Ons\Import-Export] folder.

- Download and install the latest Google Earth program (http://earth.google.com)

- Create Google Earth placemarks, polygons, or paths. (Polygons and paths can be generated from Google Earth Plus or Pro) and export them.

- In ArchiCAD you can either open or merge the Google Earth KMZ/KML file.

- Once you have positioned your model, switch to 3D view and save your work into Google Earth format.

It’s quite simple, isn’t it?

Note: Macintosh platform is not supported yet, but we will soon release the compatible version.

I have just tried to use the Google Earth add-on for the first time and when I try to merge (or open) the .kml file I get an instant crash.

I am running XP-SP2 on my MacBook Pro, and just downloaded the latest Google Earth and what I think must be the latest add-on.

Does anyone know anything that might help?

EDIT: I just checked the dates on the add-on and (strangely) the creation date is 29 Oct 2006 but modified date is 29 May 2006. What's up with that?

Peter,
I had repeated problem with earth pro 7 day trial and ac9. The most I could get to import was 1 placeholder. Lines and fills would not come thru, and I needed them for tree line locations. So I tried the 1 point only that it would bring, but most of the time it would not export out of AC9. I would just get errors. My file was model objects and a mesh (which I assume you might have to turn off). Can you help with this? I have time for my subdivision since my final work is a month or two off, Lynette

Any idea why attempting to use this on AC10 would give me this:

You think it's JT's fault that my add-on does not work?

That article simply looked like a pretty good double-check on a complex installation process....

Yes. I want to know why Archicad is not recognizing the Google Earth Add-on that I've installed. As near as I can tell, my installation was correct and I still get the error.

I was thinking perhaps that what I downloaded was for Windows only and this (like some other add-ons) was not available for the Mac yet.
