How to place a sky in Elevation/section

Hi,

I'd like to add sky to my elevations and sections whilst retaining the setting I'ce already chosen as shown in the screenshot below.

My section has quite a few curved elements which means that taking the drawing into photoshop to add a sky would be very time consuming and not that neat.

Is there a way that I can add a sky 'behind' my buildings etc. I've tried placing a custom picture but it doesn't show up in section as a image.

Thank You

Are you trying for photorealistic sky images?

If not, you could just use a fill with a light blue to white gradient and then send it to the back.

Is this the sort of thing you're after? Figure tool.

You can place images with the figure tool (as pointed out by stuart) or you could use a gradient fill if you prefer to stay more in keeping with linedrawing style. Just send it to the background (bring to front/send to back) to drop it behind the lines and fills.

That's exactly what I would like to achieve!

One thing is that in your example, the materials are coloured. I would prefer my sections not to be coloured at all... Attached is an elevation which is also un-colored but I would still like the sky to be in place.

Also, the sections are at 1:200 and once printer are of a length 1800mm... How would I get a sky that larger?

Thank You Very much, sky in drawings never work out but I think you've just provided a good answer!

EDIT: I've just re-dead your post and tested the figure tool out. It works so well . Still going back to my question, would a google search be the answer to find sky images at such scale?

Check your ArchiCAD Library folder for a "[Blmg] background Images" folder. There may be something there that would work.

Another thing that is kind of required in sections/elevations is the placement of trees, people, cars etc. (real images, not photo generated as they look better, unless it's a close-up perspective in which case you would trees etc, to be rendered).

Other students typically take their autoCAD or Sketchup drawings straight into photoshop and place such images in that way. Could I speed things up by not having to re-open the drawing in photoshop, but rather use the figure tool and place images in? Is that what the figure tool is designed for? Unless you are generating trees etc. would you just use the figure tool too?

Thank You

If you have a single tree image with a white background, try the Transparent option within the figure tool. Alpha channel mask may be required but give it a go.

EDIT: Tested - it works, tree brought to front, Transparent checked in Figure Tool settings.

Create an Image Fill to use in sections/elevations (set dimensions of selected image to suit your requirements), place and use Display Order to send 'behind' other elements.

Aloha Stuart,
I want to create colored, shaded elevations like the ones that you show in this discussion. Can you give me a quick rundown of the elevation settings as well as the wall, column, roof, window settings so I can get started playing with colored elevations.
I also want to use these settings to create colored interior elevations so I can show my clients wall, finish and trim colors.
Thank you,
John
