Lights not showing trough window

Hi!

I'm rendering a night shot of a big apartment block och aprox 500 apartments.
I want to make some of the apartments light up in the dark.
I have placed area lights behind the windows. But the light does barely not show through the window.

Other lights that I have placed outdoors show in the rendering. Lamps are turned on in cinerender photorender dialog. When i go into the apartment the light is visible. So something happens when the light is passing through the window. The window is a standard window from ArhiCad library. When i raise the light adjustmensts in photo rendering dialog to 200 % the lights inside the window shows just a little... But way to little. It feels like something is not right.

Any idea what to do?

Best regards!

It could be the Ray Depth setting which (I think) determines how many layers of transparency the render engine looks through.

Go to PhotoRendering Settings, check the Detailed Settings button, then in the Options section from the fly-out menu change the Ray Depth setting (the default for some of the standard scenes is 3) and increase to at least 5. When this setting is too low you often have things behind glass disappear (especially other windows).

Just checked some of the standard scenes - in Outdoor Daylight Fast scene Ray Depth is 3, in Outdoor Daylight Medium it is 6 and in Outdoor Daylight Final it is 15. Higher number will obviously mean longer render times

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply!

I tried it but without success. The Ray depth was already on 6 and I raised it but nothing happened. The windows are still pitch black...

Any other ideas? Anyone?

One thing to look at is the Surface of the glass used in the Windows. In the Surface Settings set the Engine to CineRender and check the preview to see how transparent the glass is. If the glass seems somewhat opaque, play with the settings to make it more transparent, or change the glass in the Windows to a different glass surface that is more transparent. It might also help if you post a screen shot of your rendering.

Hi!

I tried that but i didn't work.
I raised the lamp's intensity in the photorender settings dialog to 200%. That gave me an acceptable result but it doesnt really sole the problem since all the lamps in the view are being brighter now. Even the ones that are on the outside of the house.

But thanks for your help.

ps. I tried to upload a signature, hope it worked
