Maxwell Render - The Light Simulator

If you are interested in a new rendering engine for ArchiCAD, check out Maxwell Render.

If you want THAT TYPE OF REALISM in your images, you need to take the jump into the Maxwell universe.

You might be thinking it is difficult. I used to think that way. Guess what? It isn't all that difficult. Within just a few hours I have been able to come to grips with the interface, navigation and material editor.

"But isn't it Slooooooooow?", you quip... No. In many ways it is actually fast. The reason it is so fast is because it is predictable. You don't need to think about Global Strength, Occlusion, Shadow Sampling settings, etc, etc.

It is extremely architectural, place your crosshairs on the hires Earth globe, think google earth, now position your project with north arrow - specify the year, month and time of day. Check Physical Sky and you have just successfully finished the lighting of an exterior.

It has a function that takes just 1 or 2 minutes to generate a fuzzy preview. Very fast and useful.

Here is the clincher, you can also do much of it from within ArchiCAD 10. Yup, NextLimit is working hard to create the connections (plug-ins) between ArchiCAD 10 and Maxwell. PC will come first (as usual Mac comes next) What's exciting about the Mac development is Universal App - Mactel support. Have you heard about the Quad Core Intel chips coming out soon? Imagine a MacPro with dual Quads. All of them working on your images at once. The future is looking kinda bright.

I will post within this thread more info as it become available to me, and I will give you a peek at some of the programs more useful features.

Nice work kjverine.. how did you make the paintings? When i use the "Picture 10" object and render with maxwell my pictures get black

another camera angle.
(When i use the "Picture 10" object and render with maxwell my pictures get black )

I jus made the paintings a box or in archicad a wall with the painting dimension size. Then i made the painting a material, then applied it to the box. I played around with the projectors in studio to get it to fit the "box" or canvas size of the painting.

For the background...........i dunno wat happened. I had it screen mapped and when i sent it to rendr thats what i got. So something went wrong somewhere and i will have to figure that one out later

Did you modeled those 3d models in some 3d program, or you used something like evermotion?

Oops! You DO HAVE a lot of patience!

Never done a rendering more than 5 hours long!
The longest one I ever did had to run over the weekend. Of course that was about 16 years ago and I had to use virtual memory to pretend that I had more than 8MB RAM (which was quite a bit back then).

These rendering times make me feel uncomfortable! Am I the laziest of us here in the forum?

This urges me to show the latest rendering of an inteior renovation I made today to show it to a client. Work in progress, good enough for clients but not for competitions.

Model: lounge chair - Evermotion; curtains, pillows, ashtray and carpet- Max; everything else - AC.

Original size - as shown, 800/600; faces - 250 000; Max+VRay.

Rendering time - 46 min; Secret - no reflections for metals and wood.

Not at all, I'll bet I am in a coma. It would be nice if you started a thread for VRay. Tell others what it takes to do the type of work you are displaying. Now that the Intel Mac will run Max and Vray, everyone will enjoy sharing the knowledge. I think everybody knows Maxwell is slooooooow, but it is still interesting and useful to image with it.

Why I can not save my image in maxwell render. I done some test renders in demo program, and I can not save my image??

When you save, you (need to - or can) type in the file type. For example IMAGE.jpg or IMAGE.bmp or IMAGE.tif - Does that help to put on the extension file type?
