Quovadis..LW,Cinema4D, Artlantis? Hello Dwight!

I think for AC-users, 4aternatives:
LW with AC9 and AC10
Cinema4D with Maxonform
or Artlantis R.

To have everything is gut, but expensive.

Dear Dwight, with your knowledge, will you buy Cinema 4D or ArtlantisR?

It shouldn't be faith. You (you, me, a group of people) can pretty easily and rationally define 'typical' user types for which each of the solutions works best.

In a way that is what the program developers do before developing the program: 'who will be using this', 'who are we targeting as clients'.

Both Artlantis and C4D are very successful programs in terms of market acceptance, and although it may be harder to measure I think AC Lightworks must be having some impact on the market too --some people that would otherwise be forced to go for a third party rendering program are very happily doing everything within ArchiCAD, and loving ArchiCAD more because of it.

I decided to have nothing for rendering (and I have Art.4.5)
That means, LW should be enough,in a sense, if I drill hard just with LW.
In any time I will be good with LW-Rendering engine.
Drill makes master.
Update to new version for AC is important. Graphisoft has decided to work with LW. That means, LW will be also updated with AC together.
It is good future, to make everything inside AC.
Maxonform will be also good inside AC.

Ok, let's give it a shot:

Guy who only does rendering:
C4D, Max. This is great to model and render, as long as you have a LOT of time (ill give you that rendering in a couple of months, mr. architect) and some serious money to spend.

Guy who does not want to spend one more dime:
LW in AC is great! Forget radiosity, which is the crutch of non-artists anyway. LW is free (as long as you are willing to pay €5.000 or so for AC) and, yes, you spend a LOT of time fiddling with materials and cameras and lights but, hey, it's free! And , of course, your renderings look cardboard like and you spend enormous amount of time fiddling with the above mentioned, but hey, its free...

Guy who outsources his renderings:
I don't give a d-a-r-n, as long as I get the job done. Better still, I prefer not even to think about it, so I can preserve my artistic virginity.

Guy who is an architect AND works for a living:
Artlantis R.

Reminds me of the typical Autodesk (i'm gonna be sued in a minute now):
"Who is going to use autoCad? Well, 3 times as much persons as a 3D architectural software, that's who, so we are talking tree times as much selling."

Sorry, I just had my xmas lunch and to much portuguese red wine (best of the world, never mind the french stuff), so here is my politically incorrect opinion. So sue me!

Samsung, if you have enough resource, I recommend VRay. As it is not a stand-alone application you will have to use it with some other application. I myself use it with MAX, but as far as I know it can be used with C4D and other applications.

Just a tip:
You do not need to learn all the modelling stuff of a complex applications. You can learn only the materials and lights and some basic navigaton cammands and make your renderings. That's how I used MAX for years.

Hi, Miguel, congratulations for the nice rendering! Your posts really make me think of trying ArtLantisR again. I was unhappy with the 4.5 version and didn't use it very much.

And I am really tempted to try that Portuguese wine! I've just had two glasses of Bulgarian wine with dinner and from this point of view it really seems a nice idea...

VRay does indeed make awesome renders, I've just been looking into it over the past few days, but I cant afford £500 plus whatever the cost of the modeling program would be..

cheers,

Grafikpower is the matter of competition. Ther rendering is not for me (as architect, in this sense I must sell), not for the client, but to sell to the client.
Some company or office can sell very expensive. So they can buy super rendering (with hairrenderin or such like things)
Poor freelancer like me is very important factor to decide the most best rendering programm, and this best programm must be always cheap.

I trust the experienced manpower from Graphisoft, and they have decided to put LW in AC9 in order to sell much more.
So I will use LW in AC9. It must be enough.
with your support!!
