G'day all. Building designer from Perth here, more than 18 years of residential work, almost all of it documented in Archicad (on these days; I began on AutoSketch).
Rendering always ate the hours that design deserved, so I built the tool I wished existed, and the Archicad plugin is now out. It's a small desktop app: run it, and your current Archicad view opens in Silpu Studio+, ready to render. Once the view is loaded, click "Generate Photorealistic Render", accept the defaults, and a minute later it's a photoreal image. Change your view in Archicad, click re-capture, explore its full capabilities and render again. You can even save a .silpu copy of the whole session and revisit it years later, when the knees don't hold anymore. No exports, no material setup (just what you have modelled), no render farm.
Where the engineering went:
- Faithful to the model. Roof forms, openings and materials render as modelled. An unusual detail is treated as deliberate design, not something to "fix". If you draw an eave-less flush verge, you get a flush verge.
- Direction, not luck. Even a grey-scale model works: mark up the view (paintbrush a wall, pin a note like "face brick here", sketch where the sofa or the lights go), keep a materials schedule the render obeys, place fixtures with real IES photometric profiles, and relight from day to dusk to night without re-rendering.
- Silpu dresses the world around it. Model just the building. The street, the neighbours, the garden and the interior furnishing are dressed in around it, true to the project's location: region-true flora and fauna, or customise and mix your own. And when a still is not enough, the Animations tab turns a render into a free cinematic clip for your client.
Two honest notes. First, it is AI: treat the output as concept imagery and check it against your drawings. Second, I build with AI assistance too; I'm a designer first and a developer second. What no AI can supply is knowing what a client presentation must get right. That part is the 18 years on the tools.
