Terrain mesh surface smoothness...

I have an early-stages mesh terrain model in progress and have a question about settings for the ridges.
This was created in AC20 by adding polylines to a mesh and setting elevation for "all" line by line to build up the terrain.
I am trying to achieve a smooth surface but when rendered using Cinerender, it produces sharp horizontal ridges at the contour lines as seen in the attached image.
The mesh is set to "all ridges smooth", The ridges look smooth & properly rounded in the 3D window and when PhotoRendered with "Internal" engine, but has sharp horizontal layers (see image) when rendered using CineRender.
This appears to be the same result as un-checking the "Effects-->Smooth Surfaces" box in "internal" engine render but I cannot locate the equivalent in the CineRender settings.
I think I'm overlooking something obvious but it's driving me nuts and will appreciate a assistance that will help me smooth this out in the cinerender settings.

Much thanks in advance!

Hi! The mesh smooths out relatively fine in our own OpenGL engine, but the Cinerender Engine can't smooth out user defined edges (the contour lines), and that's why it looks hard.

With Morphs though, there are no different types of edges, they are all the same in the eye of the software, so if you convert this to morph, and set the edges to smooth, it will look smooth in the Rendered image as well (see attached picture).
