Virtual Tour

Hi to all,

I want to know if the Virtual Tour allow to navigate around the building with the mouse, or only allow to rotate 360 degrees, but the translations are about specific points ?.

Can I change some details like the color of the walls without re-render all the "animation" ?

How many hours, minutes or seconds takes the render of a medium size house with all details ?

Thanks and Regards,

You might consider using live 3D views in Open GL rendering to navigate through the building - minimum 64 Mg Video RAM for this function...

Separately rendered VR panoramas from each viewpoint were, at one time, linked through an ArchiCAD Add-On called Meander - it does not appear to be included anymore. Can anyone clarify this?

Now, it seems that you really need a multi-media appplication to link VR panos.

My suggestion if you are pressed for time is to make a succession of high-quality, detailed renderings of the important parts of your design with one or two transitional views and show these images as a cross fading slide show. Very serene and satisfying.

You can't change details independant of rendering - again - the Open GL rendering seems useful here.

As to the time it takes - fairly long. I have a piece of string, here. Let me measure it.

I can confirm Meander is still in there.

Steps to use Meander:
1. Create a linked VR scene using Quicktime 2.0 engine. (Did one recently and it took 2 1/2 hours for 6 nodes Sun Shadows turned off. Size? maybe 3000x1000 pixels but set to view in 800x600) Neil McCann has a neat GDL object that can fake shadows.

2. Then reduce the size of your floor plan window (1/4 or 1/8 of your working size. Simplify the plan (turn off most layers except walls). Save the floor plan as a .Jpeg giving it the exact same name you gave the VR scene and put into the same file.

3. Start Meander (it's in the ArchiCAD folder) and open your VR scene. Meander will open the floor plan and the VR and they will be linked.

Having the VR and the Plan linked is effective. You do have to go back to ArchiCAD to make changes and rerender.

If you save it as linked QuickTime panoramas, it is about the fixed view points where you can jump from one to another, having a 360 degree wiew at each of them.

There is the option of Meander too, as advised by David Pacifico.

In both cases, the presentation is not changeable, and has to be pre-rendered.

No. The only way to do this is to use OpenGL walkthrough within ArchiCAD, where you can move around as you wish and change what you want in real time.

As Dwight said - how long is a piece of string? This depends on the house, on your computer, on the rendering engine, on the effects ... too many factors in the equation!

Thanks to all for the help !!

one more ...

so ArchiCad have an option for render in OpenGL ?? .. or I have to make a program using OpenGL reading the ArchiCad File format ... etc.

Could you please explain me in detail this option ?

Which ArchiCAD are you on?

Versions 8.x (8.0 and 8.1) have the OpenGL mode of the 3D window, where you can interactively work in OpenGL environment.
