Artlantis ultimately provides better lighting and render quality, but is crippled by rudimentary material definitions.
It will soon offer animation capabilities that provide sophisticated camera controls. I think it is better for occasional renderings because it gives quicker feedback when you make a change.
LightWorks is already in ArchiCAD and is properly connected to internal material definitions. I think it is better in making design development images as the design evolves.
Neither approach is automatic - it takes a long time to become expert.
If you want to be a professional illustrator, neither application is adequate. Look to Cinema 4D, LightWave and Electric Image - Max, even.
