presentation elevation for future projects

I have a project our company is doing for a non-profit organization, due to funding restraints they cannot do the whole project in one phase, i would like to show all phases of the project in elevation. what i attempted was too show phase two as dashed lines in elevation w/o breaking the link to the model, the best i could do was use a lighter pen, to show it as a ghost image, this looks ok on the computer but is not dramatic enough in print. I resist the temptation to break the link if i can. Any help
would be great.

Shale, have you ever tried sketch render of AC. for me it´s very usefull. I made last week a project with this technique and my client like it very much. I hope this help you.

Yes we use the sketch renderings in every project we do.


i was trying to show the whole project in phases using dashed lines,
i did get there but had to copy the elevation and change the lines to dashed lines, i wanted a way to do this w/o breaking the link.

It's very easy to do what you want (dashing part of the elevation while keeping everything linked) - by using an overlay fill. I do this all the time for a variety of drawing types.

Modify your pen table to include another white pen (besides pen 91) that is relatively fat. Using a diagonal fill (such as a modified copy of Brick) and this fat white pen on a clear background, draw a polygonal fill over the part of the elevation that is to be dashed. Bring the fill to the front if necessary and adjust as required.

I've used this technique with a dense dotted fill to screen the wings in elevations that are not frontal views. (For a dense dotted fill, I duplicate %25 and make it denser ... and then use a variety of white pen thicknesses depending on the desired result.)

I know we can set our own sketch render settings, but FWIW here is a smaller version of an animated gif that I give to my clients, that cycles through all the sketch presets. (If you want to stop it, you should be able to hit the 'Stop' button in your browser. Hit 'Refresh' to start it over).

Thank you for the responses, We use the Kohinoor setting and depending on how much detail there is or how much of a hurry we are in, we will start there and then change the overstrech settings a little.

Karl, i tried just what you suggested prior to posting, it does work but again it's another step. it seams to me if in the say wall setting you change the line setting to dashed in your floor plan/section, they should show up in elevation as dashed. maybe a wish list item.

Which setting slows down sketch renders the most? For me even the simplest models tyake forever to sketch. Turning off shadows helps a lot but I need the shadows..
