derek,
archicad can do rendered 3d navigable renderings in QuickTime file format where they are called scenes and/or panoramic views. It can calculate lights, textures at the very professional level. The trick is you have to get used to all tweakings and sometimes clunky settings. I'm not surprised that you don't want to learn Artlantis (which is my case as well) . I personally think it is a waste of time (you know all that exporting, importing, different interface etc). But don't get me wrong if you're a viz guy you would be probably better off with Artlantis. AC rendering engine (Lightworks) is more for architects who want to have viz's at the decent level without spending too much time on that.
As I know there is a book about tricks in AC lightworks by Canadian fella Dwight Atkinson advertised here

Apparently is very good with lots of examples but I just saw bits and pieces on the net (I'm promoting a book I haven't actually seen - that's ridiculous) and I think the price is around 50-60 quid as I can remember but you'd better to check that.
However, I am just scratching surface because as I said I do not really have time for visualizations.
