realistic lighting?

Hi

We're just starting to play with proper rendering in AC10.

The lighting looks terrible. Any tips on getting more realistic lighting? The lights available in the library seem very limited.

TIA

i did have to give most of my materials a wee diffuse and/or specular boost . . .

also - your sun, its contribution to ambient and ambient intensities do come into play from with the 3D projection settings>'more sun' dialogue. and you have to be really careful doing this since there seems to be a bug that creates a weird green/yellowness if you get the wrong combination of values! see below!

dwight has an AC10 update for those who registered their 'lightworks...' book.

Ben:

what are the sun and ambient color values for the lime green popsicle look?

sun - RGB, 254, 255, 244
ambient - RGB 242, 239, 255

but it doesn't seem to matter too much: whenever ambient hits somewhere between 60-70% (+ o r- a couple), the total light value goes nuts.

contribution to ambient also plays a part . . .

trouble is - as soon as you hit this strange light effect, anything over and above those values creates a weak, dull light. i've never reported it because i'm never really 100% sure what i'm doing!

Perhaps you should switch your avatar back from negative land and your color representation will get fixed.

Here's my test of your wierd result - using exactly your color values.

You must have something else crude-euphemism-for-intercourse'd up.

what happens when you use exactly my light intensity values too?! (put your sun up to 84 )

(look at the effect of changing my location and date to match yours...!)

sez 64 in the dialog.
here's 84.

sort-of wired but not psychedelic.
Do you give your machine drugs?

Imagine weed for computers. Slow that processor right down.

You have me on this one - this is clearly a wierd bug.
But while yellow is strange, that lime green is truly unexpected.

What specific influence does location have besides latitude? Is there someone deciding what the quality of light in Abu Dhabi, Blenheim or San Francisco is?
