Ceiling, wall finish and plinth tools - when?

VictorStefanarh

Hi everyone,

I’ve seen a lot of wishes here—some are totally useful, others maybe less so—but I’m wondering: when will we have a ceiling tool? Haven’t you tried modeling ceilings with slabs and creating views using layer combinations? Why can’t we have a proper tool, one that allows good classification in schedules and a clearer distinction between model elements?

Also, aren’t you tired of modeling plinths with beams, just because Graphisoft left wall accessories behind? And if you try to take off surfaces or measure lengths, it’s absolutely impossible. Wouldn’t it be great to have a plinth tool, like the railing tool, but maybe with advanced features—directly linked to walls and their openings?

Aren’t you tired of modeling finish walls with walls and constantly running into issues with intersections? When you have a door and use a finish wall on top of a wall, you need a separate wallhole for the second skin. And if you decide to change the design, you have to move all those elements again and again.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a finish tool to simplify all these design processes?

Yes, I’m tired. And Community, I’m begging you to vote for this thread—maybe in the next version, we’ll get some really useful new features.

Victor

@VictorStefanarh,

If I count it right, you have made 4 wishes in a single topic. Please post each wish in its own topic. That way, people can express their support for the invididual wishes, and the GS Product Team will be able to see which wish has how much support. Right now, if people vote, no one will know which one(s) of the four wishes they support with their vote. This is why it is important to post one wish per topic.

While ~4 "separate" wishes, it looks like all of them are things you could currently do with Accessories Add-On. It does a lot of useful stuff, but has been in an uncomfortable development limbo for years now.

I'll rephrase Victor's wish like this: Let's revitalize the Accessories Add-On, or bring its functionality to core Archicad. Maybe the functionality could be extended from the current slab (floor/ceiling) + wall to pillars and possibly other element types in a consistent way. Let objects be attached to elements, know their parameters etc...

Yes, some of these you could do with Accessories and that may be one way to go.

I have recently posted a similar wish spcifically about a dedicated ceiling tool.

Please review and add any other functionality you feel is needed (also to keep it as a separate wish).

@NBGheikki yes, it may be look like for a  part of that list you can use Accessories. But take a time and  try use Accessories not just for 3d view. Try use Accessories for quantity take Off for ex or other things and you ll see Accessories are nothing more then a bunch of 3d models. Are you lookin for bim stuff or not?

@VictorStefanarh If you think accessories are just 3D, you've been using pretty dumb accessories. Accessory objects can do whatever normal objects can. Schedules, component lists, no problem. You can easily make, for example,  a floor tiling accessory that tells you how many tiles and how much grout you need to install it.

This is not to say that accessories can do anything. A ceiling tool that resembles the curtain wall tool might be better. (I've used the curtain wall tool to make a paneled ceiling as a proof of concept, worked pretty well. But a ceiling isn't a wall...)
