Dimensions - Centerline & EQ/EQ Option

Possible bug?
When editing a dimension string which has custom text between two nodes, the default reverts to the measured value and hides the custom text. The default should remember which part of the string has additional custom text applied and show it.

The current default is resulting in frequent missing information on drawings.

Provide the ability to:

  • automatically change text to EQ / EQ - maybe a checkbox of sorts?

  • automatically add centerline object to dim string - currently requires using the object and placing it repetitively which is time consuming

  • preset the dimension tool to dimension to one side of core only (framing) by clicking on the wall, similar to how it dimensions both sides currently. It is standard to only dimension to one side of the framing in the US, and although you can do so by manually dimensioning by skin, this requires a lot of zooming and on complex assemblies this can lead to inaccuracies. It also takes far too long. The other way it has to be managed is by dimensioning to both sides of the core, then manually deleting one side's dimension which is very inefficient.

You can set the dimension tool to dimension just the reference line.

You can even switch settings while you are dimensioning.

The wall reference line can be set to the outer core or core centre, which sounds like what you want to dimension.

yes, I am aware of reference line location options and dimensioning to them, but the reference line is not always in the same place especially when you need to adjust it lines to ensure walls join at complex junctions. We want to be able to select something along the lines of "dimension to RHS / LHS of core only". Spending loads of time adjusting the reference lines of hundreds of walls in order to dimension in this way (we are not talking a single family house here but large, multi story mixed use developments)  can sink a project.

It's all about ease and efficiency.
