Dual screens with instant updating

Ingolf
Advocate

My wish is to have dual screens with instant updating in Archicad. As far as I understand I have to click on the window on the other screen to update it. It would have been smoother to have an imediate update. As soon as I alter something in the plan view, it will automatically change in the 3D window and section/elevation.

I also youse Bentley and have had two monitors and now 3 since late 80ish.

It is the best thing to ever happen to products like this.

there is nothing negative and all positive.  Never a glitch or a slow down ONLY increased production.

Great, another much needed feature removed from the roadmap for AI slop nobody wants 😀

I started Cad modeling in 1986 .  Dual monitors on a PC within a couple years we have usr of two Monitors with 4 views each.  This all in hte early 80s  then very quickly  up to four monitors with 4 views each.

Right now, on my other machines that are 4 years old I can have 4 monitors with 4 views each.

Now that Bentley and Autodesk have the more members, I need to review of why I use Archicad.

All three are good platforms.  I hate the Autodesk company and cannot trust them.  There costs are to high.

So I have come to the conclusion that neither Bentley nor Archicad can compete as it is too easy to move to Revit and be more competitive. Note Archicad and AESOSim are not cheaper than Revit.   But there is greater support from the community for Autodesk.

Think about it.  If you were buying software (Revit, AECOSim, Archicad) all at the save cost why would you pick anything but Autodesk?

WE need the ability for 4 Monitors with up to 4 views on each monitor.  All live - no lag.

Any type of view.  Wireframe, line drawing, rendering, perspective , etc

I, along with many of my colleagues, would LOVE if ArchiCAD allowed us to work with multiple tabs open across our monitors. For example; if i were to be working away on a detail and need to continuously reference a plan, instead of flicking between the two tabs, I want to be able to simply grab that tab and drag it across to my other monitor, allowing for a much smoother and more efficient work flow. This would be beneficial in a multitude of instances, but mainly when using 'trace' is a hindrance to the drawing, or when a file is large and takes time to load each view when flicking between them.

Imagine having a section open on one screen and an already complete section on the other, being able to copy and paste/drag 2d elements directly across. Basically, having detachable tabs would make my life as a daily archicad user one heck of a lot better.

@gcollins

You can already have multiple windows (tabs) open on multiple monitors.

With Windows OS you need to stretch the Archicad application across multiple screens and then resize and reposition the view windows.

I believe on Mac OS you cn just drag to another screen - but I am not sure about that.

Either way the views are not updated until you click into them to activate them.

Which is what this original wish is about and why I have merged your wish with this one.

@Barry Kelly

Any chance you could give me a little step by step how to resize and reposition the view windows? happy for the views to not refresh until i click it but id love to be able to have one section open on the left screen while working in another on the right. Can't quite work out how to have multiple view windows open once i stretch the archicad application across both screens.

I can only speak for Windows OS

@Barry Kelly Really? You think that's a solution? We want real time synched views floating all around multiple screens. That walkaround gets you nowhere.
But, hey... Magic words here: On hold. Meanwhile a lot of AI crap nobody asked for, miles away of a sensible use of AI for architecture.
I used to believe that Graphisoft would get its act together.... But that was a loooooong looooooong time ago

@Barry Kelly Ah I see... must admit, it is slightly frustrating that my wishlist comment was removed/merged with the OP above as it is asking a similar, yet different question. And the proposed solution you provided is in fact not only applicable to Mac and Windows OS alone, but also not a solution, rather a little work a round. I do appreciate you're assistance though, and hopefully graphisoft recognises the request in future. It seems to be one that quite a few people agree with! including @Roger C above haha! 🙂
