Graphical Override parts of a curtain wall

We have a project where we are retaining a curtain wall but re-painting the frame. 

So the current workflow is to demolish the existing and create a new object. Only problem is we don't what to show the curtain wall as demolished. So we wanted to use a graphic override. This only affects the whole curtain wall and cannot be restricted to the frame elements only. This feature would be very handy on these kind of refurbishment jobs.

Totally agree.

As for your scenario, you could use Options feature to diferentiate between the "as is" and "new" phase.

@Karel Landa That's where we have ended up. Not ideal as it creates an "as is" option on top of the other options needed but currently no other way around it.

While I agree with the issue - it is an actual change to the element (not a override of it's graphical representation) which should be reflected in the BIM.

So while there are workarounds available and potential quick fixes what we really need is A new approach to change and alternative designs that handles identity of elements over change. If GS is earnest about pushing the BIM frontier this is whats needed and not a feature like design options which is little more than a glorified layer system.
