Improved Attribute Manager

Lingwisyer

Hi all,

This wish is for either:

1. Adding folder functionality to the Attribute Manager, or

2. Having the Attribute Palette respect Index Numbers when importing.

2. Adding the checks and balances functionality of the Attribute Manager to the Attribute Palette

AC26 introduced attribute folders and a new way to import attrubutes together with their associated folders with the Attributes Palette. The Attribute Manager was left on the wayside and removed from the default menu structure. Soon after, it was added back to the default menu structure after much complaint as the Attribute Palette was a sub-par replacement for actually managing attributes. Three versions later and it has only received one update (AC27) and is still sub-par for managing attributes...

One major annoying I have found with syncronising attributes is that the Attribute Palette does not respect Index Numbers. When you import by Index and there are attributes that did not exist in the file, they are ammended to the first available Index. Alternatively, if you use the Attribute Manager all Index Numbers will be retained, but Folders will not be imported. The workaround to this is to first use the Attribute Manager to import them by Index, then use the Attribute Palette to import by Name, which given that all of the attributes already exist, will basically just import the folder heirachy. A two step process which should not be required if either the Attribute Manager could handle Folders, or if the Attribute Palette respected new Indexs.

There was a previous wish that brought this up that is now closed.

Small steps, else instead of hoping for an update by AC35, it would be by AC40...

You can already import via the Attribute palette by Index. Maybe it didn't default to that method.

Ok, so I assume that the one time I was doing broader scale updates to a file it must have been set to be By Name. This still comes back to the Attribute Palette being a downgrade from the Attribute Manager in most ways as:

1. The seperate buttons of the Manager are a lot more intentional than the dropdown of the Pallete

2. You can actually see and compare the temporary current state verse the import

3. You can check all pending Changes before finalising
