Pop-up for Story Placement for Favorites

There should be a setting or pop-up palette which asks if favorites are to be placed on current story or not before placement.

Favorites have to be created somewhere…. we typically create them on L1 in our template, and we have literally hundreds favorites to ensure consistency across projects and to assist users’ efficiency - the current workflow involves modifying or creating a custom Element Transfer Setting, and then each user needs to ensure that this is checked when opening Archicad (it won’t take effect if you set it later without restarting AC).

I would take this one step further (by simplifying it, actually) and say that Favorites (and Tool Defaults, for that matter) should have the option to set a specific Home Story (the current method), OR "Story of current View".

Workflow examples:

  • If you want a Favorite to be placed/located on L1 only, you can set that as the Home Story in the Favorite settings; or
  • If you want to permit a Favorite to be placed on any story of the project (the typical scenario), you can set the Home Story to "Story of current View". ln this case, whichever story you have active in your View will become the Home Story of the newly placed Favorite.

FYI - I just discovered a workaround for this: if you activate a Favorite while viewing the story associated with it (L1 in these example), then navigate up or down stories with a shortcut, the Favorite will be placed relative the Story you're viewing. But - as with a lot of wishes - a workaround should not be the long-term solution.
