Archicad Studio

Hi,

Anybody knows exactly how the new subscription model affects addon development (if it does at all)? Archicad Studio is just the name of the Archicad, BIMcloud, BIMx package? Still there will be individual versions, just users can buy AC only in a subscription model (so still there will be 29, 30, etc.), or there will be just Archicad (without version, just maybe with an internal build number) which gets updates / patches continuously?

Hi,

this is correct.

On the API, the information whether MEP features are enabled or not, will be also available. So add-ons can alter how they behave depending on the feature set.

Continuous updates sounds like a nightmare for AC given their track record for release bugs and occassionally breaking things between versions which would not go down well given some projects take years...

Yep, we just know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone who might know something about the topic, and this someone thinks this might be the case. So the info is pretty much a third hand info with lots of uncertainties. If it is true, then it has a serious impact on the companies in the addon business. That is why I had the idea to ask here if there is an official statement about it, we do not want to rely on rumors. Also it is better to be prepared for such a change in advance, if really this is the situation.

Nothing I say is official.

I don't think subscription will have any affect on how add-ons are created or need to be updated, at least not currently.

Currently they are version and operating system specific.

So for versions 26, 27, 28, and also for Window, MAC Intel and MAC Silicon (ARM?) operating systems.

As far as I know, whether you have full Archicad, Studio, Start, Solo, or any other type of Archicad, it has no affect on the add-ons.

Only the version and the operation system is important.

However I do not create add-ons, so I can't be 100% certain, but I believe that is the case.

Who knows what will happen in the future as far as the versions are concerned though - 29, 30, 31?

I am only guessing that there will be a new version every year and add-ons will still need to be re-created for each version.

It would be nice if add-ons were not version dependant and therefore did not need to be re-created each year and then re-licenses by the user.

Hello,

Yes, you are right. Archicad Studio is the name of the package that includes BIMx Pro, BIMcloud Basic and Archicad. Archicad Collaborate is the name of the package that includes BIMx Pro, BIMcloud SaaS and Archicad. The features of Archicad in these packages do not change. However, with Archicad 29, it seems that MEP will not be included in the Studio package, but will be a separate product.
