export to bim explorer error code

I have an AC 15 file that i'm having trouble exporting to bim explorer (using the trial for the first time)

V15 (3267) - comm license, solo project, windows OS, from 3d window, file>export for bim explorer i receive the following error message:

DO_VBEExport (blue header bar)
!InitExporter
(clicking OK does nothing)

tried a search on the forums for these two messages and received no results.

I've checked the add on manager and 'bim explorer add on' is checked. Also, the bim explorer.exe appears 'dead'. clicking the .exe does nothing other than reving my processor fan. I've tried reinstalling latest hotfix but naturally it says i'm up to date.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.
