AC 10.815 bug / Unable to save / publish DWG

Anonymous

SUMMARY

As mentioned in another thread AC 10.815 is sometimes unable to publish and or / save to DWG.

DESCRIPTION

I have a number of 10.0 files in which publishing to DWG will fail on some stories and sections/elevations.

Some stories/sections can be publish, others can't. I have even tried to delete all entities on a story which couldn't be published to DWG. Put even then I am unable to save or publish too DWG. And yes, I have tried different translators …. with no luck.

Saving a story / floor plan to DWG will give me a "Cannot write output file" error message. Publishing the same story will mark the file / item with status "Failed". Double clicking the list item gives me a nondescriptive error message: "Publishing of the item failed because ArchiCAD was unable to generate it."

This has happened to multiple ArchiCAD 10.0 projects / files. There is no clear pattern. I am able to publish some stories, and some not. Yesterday suddenly I was unable to publish story 1 in an ongoing project. This story has been published many times before, but not anymore now. (Deleting all entities will not help. Deleting all entities, saving, closing file, closing ArchiCAD, reopening Archicad, reopening the file and publish will not help.)

This is a real showstopper. I can't send DWG files to the engineers anymore. Graphisoft must have a look at this immediately!

REPRODUCE

No problem to reproduce on my system ….with given files, it's always like this

SOLUTION

a) Wait for bug fix
b) Workaround:
Save to AC9. Export from 9 (after loss of all special 10 entities).

Well -- got a reply and the files are being looked at. I am still not able to save either of the two floors of the garage part of the overall file. The checks noted in this thread have been extremely helpful and are directing the process for me to find the culprit. Even the special built-in translator fails -- just do not know where to turn next.

Old methods do keep us mentally in check.. finally got the files to do what they should. The door tags are off, the checking to assure that no opening has a negative bottom (below the bottom of the wall) and going to the model view settings to change all the fills to contours only and all the lines to hairlines -- much as we did with these settings in previous versions, the files translate using the default and are actually both paper and model space! Thanks to David Tauer of GS the thinking to make all of these settings do what is supposed to happen, happen.

Just reinstalled my old ACAD 2000 in the office token PC and looking at the resultant dwg, the translation is workable. The frustration with all the new settings is not. Need to have a lot more training, reading, and conversations about how these thing get done.

I've recently found that if I save the the .dwg template file while it is in paper space (vs. model space) I will no longer get "failure" when translating. I tried this on a whim and it worked to my surpise. Maybe this will work for some of you. -insert emoticon of your choice here--> .

I'm having similar kind of a export problem. I'm working on a huge file with several Xrefs and stuff, so I really don't have time to track down the problem.

It seems to me that the bug is somehow "irrational". I had this problem with this file in December. Then it has worked fine until now. This is something really annoying.

It seems that now there is no proper way to work with Archicad if you're using a Intel based mac. AC9 crashes every 10min, if the file is big enough and 10 is just so full of bugs, that nobody really wants to rely on it. It really shouldn't be this hard to cope with basic things.

Solved the problem. If I remove all the Xrefs, it will save.

How practical - now I just need to copy everything from the xref layers to new ones and delete the xrefs (only if can do it again, because it seems that the xref control sometimes just forgets, which xrefs are linked...).

Aha!! For me the trick was under Publisher Set, Format>Options copying "Special Built-in Translator" and changing Settings>Layers to "Visible Layers Only." This was after following all suggestions above. And my file had no xrefs or doors with "Sill to Story."
