Anyone use google drive?

Hi
not sure if this is the right section for this question
Just wondering if anyone has tried using Google drive to manage their data

we have been using it and getting a lot of errors syncing files

We are a small firm and dont work on single projects at the same time so I thought this cloud would work for us instead of a BIM.

Used Google Drive in its early days, certainly had issues with speed of file transfer and syncing and had to shift to dropbox, no problem with file transfers and syncing so far.

here's a recent article on about data transfer speeds and file syncing.

Hope this helps.

It is not so much the speed that I am having a problem with but we keep getting errors which require use to resync the entire data which is about 90gb and takes about a day and a half

Maybe switching to dropbox would work better I use it for personal stuff and it works great.

I have been using DB with a project which was about 6GB with no synch problems.

If you're using Dropbox or any cloud storage with apps that Autosave (like Archicad, and all Apple apps that use the New document model that was introduced with 10.7 Lion) you have to take care.

if you work on a file, and then regret it and revert back to an earlier stage, or choose not to save your changes, and then close your app and your computer, the cloud storage might get out of sync because there is always a delay in syncing.

Also, if you have a large project, the data transferred at each Autosave is large, which takes time to sync and thus makes the delay even bigger. Which in turn means the risk of getting out of sync is also bigger.

It is safer, and usually faster, to use a local work file and when you're done, copy it to Google Drive or Dropbox.

I use Drop Box a lot but recommend, along with the rest, that caution is needed. Besides the synching issues changes, including deletions, will be automatically propagated to all clients. Drop Box has a "Packrat" option for resurrecting deleted files but nothing for reverting to overwritten files or old versions. Regular, reliable, offline, archival backup is essential.
