Can't open DWG in AC11

Anyone else having AC11 crashing when trying to open a dwg -file?

For some reason AC11 crahes every time I try to open this dwg -file. Interestingly AC10 does open it with no problem - the only difference there is, is that AC10 asks me to do a SMB/CIFS autenthication to my co-worker's workstation (!). He isn't related to this work in any way.

So: Anyone with ideas, or is this just one more unsolvable bug in AC?

P.S.
No I don't want to save the file as a .pln in AC10 and use it as a reference in AC11. I want to use it as a goddamn X-REF!

You can bring it in as a drawing using the drawing tool. This has the added benefit of not bringing in its layers.
Its only layer will be the one you place it on.

That doesn't work either.

A very stupid question: is it an AutoCAD 2008 file?

That you can't open, but using the free TrueDWG Converter (download from Autodesk) you can convert it to a DWG format that Archicad can open.

It's 2004.
And because AC10 opens it with no problem is suppose it's a bug in AC11.

So it's no end of the world because I'm able to open it with AC10, save it as a .pln and use it as a reference, but that's a lot of work to do since we're working on a cross-CAD project (Revit-AC11).
Correctly configured translators and X-REFing (if it only worked out properly!) would save me from a lot of manual open/save as -routine.

can they give you a pdf to use as a reference?

Yes they could, but the drawings need to be sent forward as a dwg or a plt.

Interestingly, my co-worker is able to do the X-REFing. I tried to reinstall AC11 completely but it didn't help.
So maybe I need to reinstall OS or buy a new workstation or just forget it. Sometimes I really hate these machines - pens are way more reliable .

Hm ...

Doing a job with Reviteers and resorting to DWG is really dumbing it down. Have you tried IFC?

It could also be the DWG flavour that Revit exports that 11 does not like. Good thing that 10 likes it ...

Unfortunately our libraries aren't completely IFC compatible so we need to do it in the dumb way. And this is the first time we're collaborating, so we're working on getting the IFC working.
