Door ID

I want my door ID to be based on several things.

Width & Height, panel type, panel thickness, jamb depth, hand, lock set or passage, pre-hung or not, fire rating, story, room, etc...

I can sort my doors by these criteria with the Schedule scheme settings, however, I can not seem to get the door ID's to be based on the same criteria.

If any one of my schedule scheme settings is different, then the door ID must be different too.

Is this possible or not? If not, the schedule is useless.

I need a good door schedule for house plans.

What are you using for this, or are you?

I'm not sure I understand.... do you have anything more graphic about how you want your IDs to be different in each schedule?

I have too many doors with the same ID that should have their own ID because they are different.

I am thinking that this is because I have not been able to refiene the criteria for generating door ID's well enough to match the differences that show up in the door schedule. Or is there some better way?

This is a crude example. It is the schedule I want to add some things too and edit some more. I think you can see what I mean. The door ID's should be different for some of these doors.

Perhaps the problem is that I am using ID's in my door markers. ?

in the floor plan, take a look at doors #7. One of them is in a 2x6 exterior wall and needs a 6 9/16" jamb. The others are in 2x4 walls and have 4 9/16" jambs. In the garage I am using 5/8 Type X and will want a 6 11/16" jamb.


I do not know how to get the door ID's to be different for this type of thing. I am sure there must be a setting for this somewhere.

Is the settings for this made in the Element ID Manager or in Scheme Settings, or both ?


note: I am using labels for the builder dimensions too, to keep a client happy.

I think Available Criteria is the problem.

The list of Available Criteria is not sufficient to make a useable door schedule. The door schedule is being generated as a list to order the doors from. I dont care that the Available Criteria list can show pen #, subfloor thickness, etc...

If it doesn't help my client in ordering the doors, it is not useful criteria for the door schedule I want to make.

Is there a way to add to the Available Criteria in the Element ID Manager ? We need at least the critial things that make each door ID differnt, other wise the schedule is usless.

I am I going about this all wrong ?

I've found it's just easier to let the schedule do the sorting and then reassign the ID numbers from the schedule. Only takes a few minutes. Trying to get the Element ID Manager to be intelligent enough to do this will be difficult, I think.

The other approach is to consider gving each door a unique ID. Although this makes for a longer schedule, it often ends up often having less confusion as to where a particular door goes if there is a particular wrinkle about a door that didn't make it into the schedule sorting criteria, like a slightly different hardware set or weatherstripping.

The Element ID Manager.... well... it's not my favorite tool in the world.

I tend to think of the Element ID as any other parameter, like width or material. It sounds like you are trying to make them interactive and based on other parameters in the object. It's definitely not how they actually function... would you expect a wall to get taller if you changed it to brick instead of stucco? No... nor will the Element IDs change based on other parameters.

I think what you want is a good idea... but it's probably more of a wishlist item than a reality right now.

Personally, I manually enter my IDs into the door (Type A, Type B) or (101A, 102A, 102B, etc....). I don't love it, but it works.

The font is called ArchiTEXT.

It is my #2 favorite.

I like SPHAND best. It is an old font from SoftPlan. 1985 or so I think. Still in my computer. Still my favorite.
